As testing of Alacrity Audio’s implementation of Acoustic Induction continues, an interesting additional phenomena has demonstrated itself.
The amount of mid-range signal present at the reflex port is significantly lower than one would expect from a loudspeaker of this size-class. This is because the Acoustic Induction system is acting as a low-pass filter, effectively turning the bass port into an additional LF driver. This midrange absorbency inside the cabinet is obvious during construction. In use, it leads to the Caterthuns’ distinctively ‘clear’ and ‘detailed’ character by preventing rearward radiation escaping into the room, without slowing transient response.
More test results to follow.
