OK, those who follow this little blog will be aware that I’m obsessed with delivering clean signal to my Cats, and to this end there have been many attempts; bi-wireing and passive bi-amping (no active electronic filter, but relying on the passive electrical crossover; active filtering introduces a whole new raft of problems).
The Scraplifier has been retired since Adrian from Deltec Precision Audio fist visited; he showed me how a good amplifier SHOULD sound. It’s difficult to beat “exceptional”…
However, one can get close. I’ve been experimenting with a little Tripath TA2020 amplifier, and the mid-range clarity is incredible. So I decided to get another one and go ‘bi-amp’ with them!
Just got it set up now, and I appreciate the extra power available (got about 20-25% extra headroom). Listening to Dire Straits @ mo (I know, sorry. but it’s just SOo well produced) and the dynamics are startling.
Going for a proper listen, I’ll report back later.
Jon.
